Samarium Cobalt Magnets

Description

The samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets were the first rare earth magnets to be developed and represent a milestone in the production of Super Magnets together with neodymium magnets. The scope of use of samarium cobalt magnets is very similar to that of neodymium, obtaining a multitude of applications inside and outside the industry, another positive point is the ability to work at high temperatures and with high energy values.

They are produced by combining samarium and cobalt raw materials, manufactured by sintering (sintered) or agglomeration (bonded) process. They have excellent performance against corrosion and oxidation. It also maintains stability to the magnetic curve thanks to Curie's high temperature.

It is a material with very positive coercive values, a factor that offer high resistance to demagnetization, combined with high resistance to elevated temperatures up to 350ºC and has the peculiarity of being used at temperatures below 0ºC. Important characteristics that make these magnets indispensable for certain applications, widely used and recommended for the industrial sector.

It is important to know that because it is a material with high hardness, it must be handled only with tools that incorporate diamond, to cut or modify the magnet. As these magnets have a high percentage of Cobalt, they are usually more expensive than the neodymium magnet and eventually subject to variations in the prices of raw materials, a characteristic of Cobalt.

Our portfolio has a multitude of shapes, measures and magnetic forces in different grades SmCo5 and Sm2Co17.
